  • Enforcing all state laws and city ordinances within city boundaries.
  • Patrolling an area of about 5 square miles.
  • Serving the needs of more than 15,110 residents.
  • Responding to crimes in progress, vehicle accidents and threats to life and property.
  • Following cases from investigation through prosecution in court.
  • Operating a command center in emergencies to coordinate response.
  • Working with citizens, groups and organizations to help solve quality of life problems.

Officers train at least 80 hours per year to maintain and upgrade their skills in a variety of areas including computer and identify theft crime, investigations techniques generally, weapons proficiency and self-defense, and cultural diversity.

Through partnerships with personnel in the Portland Police Bureau, Multnomah County Sheriffs Office, and the Gresham and Fairview Police departments, our officers participate in a variety of multi-jurisdictional programs.  These are designed to provide extensive training in highly skilled areas of operations to the participants, who then bring this training and expertise back to the benefit the citizens of Troutdale.  These include:

  • A Special Emergency Response Team (SERT)
  • East County Major Crimes and Vehicle Crash Teams (MCT and VCT)
  • East Multnomah County Gang Enforcement Team
  • East Multnomah County Hostage Negotiation (HNT)

In addition, the Troutdale Police department relies upon the services of other City, State and County departments to provide invaluable services and expertise to the department such as:

  • East County Emergency Management (Coordinating interagency planning and response to disasters)
  • Oregon State Police Crime Lab (Crime scene investigation and evidence processing)
  • Child Abuse Team (Evaluation and investigation)
  • City of Portland Bureau of Emergency Communication (Dispatch services)
  • District Attorney's Office Neighborhood DA program (Prosecution)
