Sex Offender Notification

Last year we held a community meeting regarding the attempted abduction of a child. Most of the questions were based towards how the public is notified on Sexual Offenders in their community. Records regarding Sex Offenders are kept by the Oregon State Police.

You can obtain a list of Sex Offenders living in your area by contacting the Oregon State Police at 503-378-3720 x4429 (leave your name and address and you will receive a list). (NOTE: this a free service provided to the public by the Oregon State Police). The main criteria on what can be released depends if the person is on supervision by the County or the State.

In person or telephone inquiries one can obtain the following information or “searchable criteria” on:

  • SUPERVISED JUVENILE: Name, year of birth, City/Zip code, contact information for the supervising agency.
  • SUPERVISED ADULT: Name, year of birth, description, City/Zip code, photo, contact information for the supervising agency.
  • UNSUPERVISED JUVENILE OR ADULT: Name, year of birth, description, address, City/Zip code, crime, photo.

If the juvenile or adult is being supervised it is the responsibility of the supervising agency to make the notification to the community. If the juvenile or adult is no longer being supervised then the notification will be done by the local police department, the County Sheriff, or the Oregon State Police.
