Filing A Claim For Found Property Having Value Of $100 Or More

Within 10 days of the finding, the person who found the property must give "Notice of the Finding" in writing to Multnomah County Clerk, Recording Section, Room l02, Multnomah County Courthouse, 1021 SW Fourth Ave., Portland, OR 97204.

Within 20 days of the finding, you must cause to be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the county, a notice of the finding, once each week for two consecutive weeks. Each notice shall state the general description of the money or goods found, name and address or phone number (yours or the Police Departments - whoever is holding the property), and the final date before such goods may be claimed (90 days after the Notice of Finding to the county clerk).

If no person appears and establishes ownership of the money or goods prior to the expiration of 90 days after the date of the " Notice of Finding", the finder shall be the owner of the money or goods.

If the found property has been given over to the custody of the Troutdale Police Department, and you desire to reclaim it after the required 90 days, you must furnish to the Police Department:

1. A copy of the written "Notice of Finding" furnished to the County Clerk.
2. A copy of two newspaper advertisements published in a county Newspaper of general circulation.

Any property with the value of less than $100 is not subject to any of the above requirements, but you may report the finding to the Troutdale Police Department by calling 823-3333.

All found property should be reported to the Troutdale Police Department to be checked as possible stolen property. Property held by the Troutdale Police longer than 90 days will be disposed of according to law.
